Assembly Remove the protective block from the printer. Install the bottom cover. Pull the release latch and open the top cover. Install the ink ribbon holder. Connections The UP-D9500 can be connected to networks such as LocalTalk and Ethernet, and to computers equipped with a parallel or SCSI interface. SCSI Interface Connection Connect the printer to a SCSI interface-equipped computer or peripheral device. Notes • SCSI cable connectors should be inserted firmly as far as they will go. • A SCSI cable connected to a single host computer should be no longer than 6 meters. -

Connections (continued) Set the printer SCSI ID so that it is different from all other devices on the SCSI bus. If two devices have the same SCSI ID, malfunctions may result. Installing the Ink Ribbon The first procedure below described replacing the ribbon. When installing a ribbon the first time, skip to the second procedure. Notes • Do not reuse a ribbon. • Do not attempt to rewind a used ribbon. •... - Page 23 Place a new ribbon in the ribbon holder, with the ring set to the position illustrated. Note Do not touch the memory contacts inside the ring. Turn the ribbon in the direction of the arrow to remove any slack. Printing with a loose ribbon may damage the ribbon or degrade printing. Installing the Ink Ribbon (continued) Changing the Ribbon Type Pull the RELEASE lever to open the top cover. Note Do not open the top cover while the printer is operating. Doing so may cause the printer to malfunction. Place the holder cover on the ribbon holder. Align the holder cover and the ribbon holder with the FREE position, and slide the ribbon holder to the left to the LOCK position. - Page 25 Place a holder cover onto the holder containing another type of ribbon, then set it in the printer. Clearing Paper Jams Note Do not touch any parts other than those indicated. Hot parts inside the printer can cause burns. Pull the RELEASE lever and open the top cover. Page 40: Printer Maintenance
Printer Maintenance Open the cover and clean the inside of the printer regularly, including the space around the chuck drum and the thermal head. Close the cover after cleaning. Cleaning is recommended each time you change the ribbon. Notes • Do not clean immediately after printing, as some internal parts are very hot at that time. - Page 41 Close the top cover. Note Cleaning the chuck drum affects color smearing. Clean the chuck drum when color smearing is noticeable. Cleaning the Thermal Head Wipe the thermal head’s heating elements gently with the head cleaner (supplied with the printer) moistened with alcohol. Note After cleaning, make sure the thermal head is dry before printing.
