crossingroadways.
• Use extra care when loadingor
unloadingthe machineinto a trailer or
truck.
• Data indicatesthat operators,age 60
years and above, are involvedin a
large percentageof dding mower-
ralatedinjuries. These operators
shouldevaluate their abilityto operate
the ridingmowersafely enough to
protectthemselvesand othersfrom
serious injury.
Slopes are a majorfactor relatedto loss-of-
control and tipover accidents, which can
result in severe injuryor death. All slopes
requireextracaution. If you cannotbackup
the slope or if you feel uneasy on it, do not
mowit.
DO:
• Mow up and down slopes, not across.
• Remove obstaclessuch as rocks,tree
limbs,etc.
• Watch for holes, ruts,or bumps.
Uneven terrain could overturnthe
machine. Taftgrass can hide ob-
stacles.
• Use slow speed. Choose a low gear so
thatyou wil! not have to stop or shift
white on the slope.
• Followthe manufacturer'srecommen-
dations for wheel weightsor counter-
weightsto improvestability.
• Use extracare with grass catchersor
otherattachments. These can change
the stability of the machine.
• Keep all movementon the slopes s/ow
and gradual Do not make sudden
changes in speed or direction.
• Avoidstartingor stoppingon a slope. It
tires lose traction, disengage the
blades and proceed slowly straight
down the slope.
DO NOT:
• Do not turn on slopes unless neces-
sary, and then, turn slowly and gradu-
ally downhill,if possible.
• Do notmow near drop-offs,ditches,or
embankments. The mowercould
suddenlyturn over if a wheel is over the
edge of a cliff or ditch, or if an edge
caves in.
• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced
tractioncould cause sliding.
• Do not try to stabilizethe machineby
puffingyour toot on the ground.
• Do not use grasscatcher on _steep
slopes.
