  • Page 15: Product Description

2.1 Product description The C70 Capacitor Bank Protection and Control System is part of the Universal Relay (UR) series of products. It is a microprocessor-based relay for protection and control of small, medium, and large three-phase capacitor banks. The relay can be ordered with up to three current transformer/voltage transformer (CT/VT) modules, allowing for flexible application in variety of bank configurations.

Setup for IRIG-B is illustrated in the Installation chapter. For the Other protocols, whenever a time synchronization message is received through any of the active protocols, the C70 clock updates. However, given that IEC 60870-5-103, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, and DNP are low-accuracy time synchronization methods, avoid their use for synchronization when better accuracy time protocols, such as IRIG-B and PTP, are active in the system.

This enables the relay to synchronize to the international time standard over an Ethernet network that implements PP.
