Disassembly Procedures Safety Guidelines This chapter contains step by step procedures on how to remove and de-install components from the computer. Use the following safety guidelines to ensure your personal safety. Each procedure included in this chapter assumes that you are preparing your computer for recycling and disposal. By performing any of these procedures you acknowledge that any remaining warranty applicable to your computer will be voided.

WEEE Annex VII Component These components are classified as requiring selective treatment. Pre-disassembly Instructions Do the following prior to starting any maintenance procedures: Place the system on a stable work surface. Remove AC power cord from the system and peripherals Remove all cables from the system.

Computer Stand Removal 1. Remove the Computer Stand 1.1. Detach the stand cover from the main cover assembly. 1.2. Remove the two screws and loosen the two captive screws securing the computer stand to the main chassis assembly.

Main Cover Assembly Removal 2. Remove the Main Cover Assembly 2.1. Use a non-marring plastic tool to disengage the latches securing the rear cover assembly to the main chassis assembly. 2.2. Detach the rear cover assembly from the main chassis assembly.

Mainboard Bracket/Cover Removal 3. Remove the Mainboard Bracket/Cover 3.1. Remove the ten screws securing the mainboard bracket/cover to the main chassis assembly. 3.2. Detach the mainboard bracket/cover from the main chassis assembly.

Memory Module Removal 4. Remove the Memory modules 4.1. Release the latch on both sides of the DIMM slot (1) and remove the DIMM module from the slot (2). Note: WEEE Annex VII component. A circuit board >10 cm2 has been highlighted with the yellow rectangle as shown above.

SSD Modules Removal 5. Remove the SSD2 module 5.1. Detach the thermal pad from the SSD2 module. 5.2. Remove the screw securing the SSD2 module to the main chassis assembly.

WLAN Module Removal 6. Remove the WLAN module 6.1. Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables from the WLAN module. NOTE: For reference during machine reassembly, note which cable color corresponds to the main and auxiliary connectors. 6.2. Remove the screw securing the WLAN module to the mainboard.

Heatsink Fan Removal 7. Remove the Heatsink Fan 7.1. Disconnect the heatsink fan cable from the mainboard. 7.2. Release the heatsink fan cable from the latches securing it to the main chassis assembly.

7.3. Remove the adhesive tape securing the heatsink fan to the thermal module. 7.4. Remove the two screws securing the heatsink fan to the main chassis assembly.

Thermal Module Removal WARNING: The heatsink becomes very hot when the system is on. Wait for the heatsink to cool off before proceeding with below steps. 8. Remove the Thermal Module 8.1. Loosen the three screws (1~3) and remove one screw (4) securing the thermal module to the mainboard. 8.2.

Mainboard Removal 9. Remove the Mainboard 9.1. Disconnect the LVDS cable from the mainboard. 9.2. Disconnect the webcam cable from the mainboard.

9.3. Disconnect the LCD backlight cable from the mainboard. 9.4. Disconnect the speaker cable from the mainboard.

9.5. Remove the five screws securing the mainboard to the main chassis assembly. 9.6. Detach the mainboard from the main chassis assembly. Note: WEEE Annex VII component. RTC Battery Removal 10. Remove the RTC battery 10.1. Gently push the RTC battery sideways (1), then lift it off the mainboard (2). Note: WEEE Annex VII component. The RTC battery has been highlighted with the yellow circle as shown above. Please follow local regulations for disposal of used batteries. Caution: Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

Speaker Removal 11. Remove the Speakers 11.1. Release the speaker cable from the latches securing it to the main chassis assembly. 11.2. Detach the speakers from the main chassis assembly.

WLAN Antenna Removal 12. Remove the WLAN Antenna 12.1. Release the WLAN antenna cables from the latches securing them to the main chassis assembly. 12.2. Detach the WLAN antenna from the main chassis assembly.

LCD Backlight Cable Removal 13. Remove the LCD Backlight cable 13.1. Release the LCD backlight cable from the latches and adhesive tapes securing it to the main chassis assembly. 13.2. Disconnect and remove the LCD backlight cable from the LCD panel.

Upper Rear Cover Removal 14. Remove the Upper Rear Cover 14.1. Remove the six screws securing the upper rear cover to the main chassis assembly. 14.2. Detach the upper rear cover from the main chassis assembly.

Webcam Module Removal 15. Remove the Webcam module 15.1. Release the webcam cable from the latches and adhesive tapes securing it to the main chassis assembly. 15.2. Detach the webcam module from the main chassis assembly.
